Frederick
G. Locher, M.D., S.C. Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Locher grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin. His father practiced anesthesiology,
while his two brothers practice gynecology and pediatrics. He attended college
and medical school at Northwestern University where he was enrolled in the Honors
Program in Medical Education. His orthopedic training was at the McGaw Medical
Center of Northwestern University. Among the learning opportunities he had were
rotations at Cook County Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital, and Northwestern
Memorial Hospital. He started practicing in Barrington in 1980 and when Dr.
Michael Young joined him Lake Cook Orthopedic Associates was formed.
Dr. Locher is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a
member of the Chicago Medical Society, the Illinois State Medical Society, the
AMA and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is on the staff of Good
Shepherd Hospital in Barrington and on the courtesy staff of Children’s
Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He practices general orthopedic surgery and especially
enjoys children’s orthopedic surgery, sports medicine and arthritis surgery
and joint replacement surgery. He performed the first total knee done at Alexian
Brothers Medical Center in 1980. He has volunteered time to local high schools
and currently is team physician to Barrington High School, previously having
volunteered in that capacity at Hoffman Estates High School. He is listed
in the Castle Connolly Guide: How to Find the Best Doctors, Chicago Metropolitan
Area.
Dr. Locher has volunteered in several capacities from soccer coach, to baseball
coach and Little League board member, to Boy Scout Leader at Troop 21 in Barrington.
He has served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery and as President of the
Medical Staff at Good Shepherd Hospital. He has held numerous other volunteer
positions at Good Shepherd Hospital.
Dr. Locher and his wife Laura, an artist, have raised two sons Bryant and Matthew.
He enjoys his family, outdoor activities and almost any sport.
