Michael
P. Young, M.D., S.C. Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Michael Young was born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago. He attended
undergraduate school at the University of Illinois in Urbana, graduating cum
laude in Biology. He received his medical degree four years later at the University
of Illinois, College of Medicine in Chicago. During medical school, he gravitated
to the surgical services and after doing an orthopedic rotation had found his
career path. He interned and completed his orthopedic residency at Loyola University
Medical Center, in Maywood, Illinois. He joined Dr. Frederick Locher immediately
after completing his residency and has continued at Lake Cook Orthopedic Associates
for twenty years. His practice is primarily general orthopedics but he has interests
in sports medicine and total joint arthroplasties.
His orthopedic practice is centered in Barrington near Good Shepherd Hospital.
During his twenty years on staff, he has served on many committees and has been
the chairman of the surgery department and has spent nine years on the Governing
Council (the board of directors) of the hospital.
He belongs to several professional organizations and is a fellow of the American
Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Family considerations have also been important. He has four children who are
in various stages of education. His eldest daughter in attending dental school.
His son is a college student at Bucknell University. His two younger daughters
attend Barrington High School. He actively supports their sports and activities.
He has been involved in coaching and Boy Scouts. His wife, a physician, has
a private practice in internal medicine and is involved in many civic activities.
They met in college and were married two weeks before starting medical school.
He enjoys bicycling and has ridden tandem with his daughter more than 1500 miles.
He also enjoys scuba diving but cannot figure out how to practice orthopedics
underwater.
